FAQ

How much does it cost to hire a forklift?

The cost to hire a forklift is dependent on the forklift capacity and type, as well as the overall hire period. Therefore, it is quite difficult to provide a single forklift rental cost because of these considerations. Generally, the longer you hire a forklift the cheaper the daily rate becomes. Contact your nearest United branch today to get an exact rental quote based on your specific needs.

What is the minimum hire period for a forklift?

The minimum hire period for a forklift is one full day. We also offer flexible hire and competitive rates on weekly, monthly and long-term rental up to a maximum of 5 years to suit your requirements.

Is transport included with the forklift hire?

Yes, we will take care of the transport by delivering the forklift for hire to and from your site. When we provide you with a forklift hire quote, this will also include a separate transportation cost. The cost includes delivery and pickup of the machine to your site at the specified dates agreed upon.

How quickly can I have a forklift delivered for hire?

If the required forklift for hire is available, we can have it delivered to your business within 24 hours in the metro area.

Need a forklift for hire sooner? No problem! Let us know when you need it, and we’ll do everything we can to get it to your site sooner.

Normal Hours: Monday to Friday, 5am–4pm.

Please note that weekend and after-hour deliveries may incur penalties. Please speak to your local United branch for more information.

Can you deliver forklifts for hire on the weekend?

If you require a forklift for hire on the weekend, generally we would deliver on the Friday afternoon and then organise pick up on the Monday morning. However, we can still deliver on the weekends if required.

Please note that weekend and after-hours deliveries may incur penalties. Please speak to your local United branch for more information.

Do you have a forklift for hire that will fit into a sea container?

Yes, United's extensive range of forklifts for hire includes container forklifts that allow access into sea containers for the purpose of unloading cargo. These forklifts are equipped with a three-stage mast, simply known as a container mast. The mast’s lowered height provides enough overhead clearance to safely access sea containers.

Container forklift for hire

Another important consideration when accessing sea containers with a forklift is that you’ll require a container ramp. A container ramp is used to provide safe entry into a sea container with a forklift. United also provide container ramp hire, so please mention this to a United representative when you enquire.

Do you hire container ramps?

Yes, United offers container ramp hire to allow forklifts to access sea containers. Please ask about this product when you enquire about your forklift hire.

Do I need a license to operate a forklift?

Yes, a valid High Risk Work (HRW) license is required to operate a forklift. If you currently hold a certificate of competency or an older ticket, you will need to have this converted to this new national license.

HRW License LF Class

The standard national course is TLILIC2001: License to Operate a Forklift Truck (Class LF). There is a 1-day course for experienced operators and a 2-day course for inexperienced operators. Learn more about our forklift training services available.

Can you help me select the right forklift for hire?

If you are unsure which forklift to hire, United will help you choose the right equipment to suit your requirements. We will ask the right questions to ensure the forklift you hire will complete the task both efficiently and safely. This includes determining the right capacity forklift with suitable mast and attachment to help you get the job done. We can even visit your business and offer an obligation-free site assessment to determine the most suitable forklift for hire.

What if the hire forklift breaks down or has a fault?

In the unlikely situation of a forklift for hire breaking down or experiencing an issue, please contact United’s Service Centre immediately on 1300 852 730. We take these issues seriously and want to minimise any disruption to your business. Our team of responsive mobile service vehicles will visit your site and repair the forklift as quickly as possible.

Do I need to Off Hire my forklift?

Yes, once you have finished with the equipment, as the hirer, it is your responsibility to contact your local United branch to off hire the forklift. Once notified, United will organise the equipment to be immediately picked up from your site.

Please note the forklift will remain on hire and the hirer will be charged the daily rate until United has been contacted.

Do you offer Wet Hire?

No, United does not offer Wet Hire services in which we provide an operator with the forklift hire. Our services only include the rented equipment, known as Dry Hire. You would need to organise your own operator who is licensed to use the forklift.
