FAQ

What is the minimum hire period?

The minimum hire period that our rental equipment can be hired is one full day. When we provide you a quote, we will refer to a “daily rate”. We can also offer flexible hire agreements to suit your requirements from a day, week, month or by project.

What types of hire are available?

At United we provide both short-term hire and long-term hire.

Short-term hire is any rental period from one day hire up to 12 months. This hire suits one-off tasks, periodic demands or short-term projects.

Long-term hire is generally any rental period from 1 to 5 years. This hire is ideal for businesses who require equipment indefinitely to perform similar daily tasks over an extended period. An example is a forklift that’s required to unload products from delivery trucks on a daily basis. Long term hire can be very cost effective for businesses who might not necessarily want to commit to purchasing new equipment or where their requirements change frequently. During long term rentals, United will also take care of the servicing and maintenance to ensure your equipment is operating at peak performance.

Is transport included?

Yes, transport of equipment to and from your site is included with our hire. When we provide you a rental quote, we will also provide a separate transport cost. This cost includes delivery and pickup of the equipment to your site at the specified dates requested.

How quickly can I have hire equipment delivered?

Generally, if the required rental equipment is available, we can have it delivered to your business within 24 hours in the metro area. If it’s urgent, we could also possibly have it delivered that same day within the metro area if booked in the morning. Please let us know if you need equipment urgently and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.

Are there any additional surcharges for transport?

Our standard transport rates apply from Monday to Friday 6am-4pm, and Saturday 8am-12pm. Delivery outside of these hours, such as nightshift and Saturday afternoons or Sundays, may incur additional surcharges. Please speak to you local United rental department for an exact transportation cost if delivery is required outside of our normal hours.

Do you deliver on the weekend?

If you require hire equipment for use over the weekend, generally we would deliver on a Friday afternoon and then pick it up again on the following Monday morning. However, we can still deliver on a weekend if required, though an additional transport surcharge may apply. Please speak to your local United rental department for an exact transportation cost if delivery is required outside of our normal hours.

Please note that once equipment is delivered, it will need to be secured somewhere on site.

How can I pay for my hire?

Payments can be made online by Credit Card (Mastercard and Visa card only) through our payment portal located on our Make a Payment page. Other payment methods including EFT, cheque and Direct Debit are also available here. Prior to making any payment, our Rental department will provide you with a United Reference Number.

Please note there is a Merchant Fee charge of 1.5% for all credit card payments which covers the fee charged by the banks. Unfortunately, we do not accept Diners or Amex cards.

Do you offer Wet Hire and Dry Hire services?

No, United does not offer Wet Hire services in which an operator is provided with the hire equipment. Our rental services is Dry Hire, which includes the hired equipment only. You would need to organise your own operator who is both licensed and competent to use the specific equipment.

What if the equipment breaks down?

If you experience a breakdown, please let us know as soon as possible by call our national Service Hotline on 131 607. We take breakdowns seriously and want to ensure minimal disruption to your business.

United offers rental customers with responsive mobile support throughout their rental period. Should equipment breakdown, our technicians will travel to your site to repair the equipment as soon as possible. Should it be deemed that the equipment requires more extensive repair, United will organise the same or a similar hired unit to be delivered to you at no extra cost.

Please note: An After-hours call out fee will apply outside of our normal operating hours, 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday.

What do I do if I have a problem or fault?

We take these issues seriously, so If you have any problems or faults with the equipment, please let your local United branch know as soon as possible. Please call our national Service Hotline on 131 607. A representative may be able to assist over the phone, and if not, we will organise a call out for an experienced technician to visit your site and inspect the equipment.
